There is a major issue with this game. The lack of split-screen co-op is a real problem. Co-op means so much in games, and Sniper Elite is very much a single-player game. There are moments when you can't help but wish you had someone with you. The fact is, though, no-one wants to sit down to a game of Sniper Elite 5 and face-off against just one other human.
This is mostly an issue because the single-player experience is so entertaining. The story keeps you coming back for more, with some of the best gameplay moments in Sniper Elite so far. You are, however, at the mercy of other people's internet connection.
The multiplayer system feels a little clunky, but it's well designed and well thought out. It allows you to host your own games, and you can join up with other people as a sniper team. There are a variety of match-ups available, from a standard death match to a team death match. In a Death match you play as Snipers versus an objective. A Sniper wins by killing all the people on the team. A team wins by a certain number of kills.
You have a good variety of weapons at your disposal, from the classic SMG to the semtex grenades. I felt the SMG was the best weapon overall, with the LMG and sniper rifle falling further down the pecking order.
The computer AI is pretty good, as long as you don't have lots of people. You can play with only one opponent, and even then it's best to play with one computer sniper on the same team as you. The strategy is to stay in cover and hope they don't spot you. This is by far the hardest thing to learn in the game, and your experience will be determined by the amount of practice you put in.
